Military power supplies must endure harsh operating conditions, such as extreme temperatures, shock, and vibration. These supplies provide reliable power in the field, even in the most demanding environments. We offer various customization options to ensure our power supplies meet specific customer requirements. Our products support a range of military applications, including communication systems, radar systems, and ground vehicles.
At KEMET, we focus on delivering high-quality, reliable products that cater to the unique needs of our customers. Our rectifiers convert AC power to DC power and come with features such as rugged enclosures, high-temperature components, and advanced power management software. Our load banks, equipped with adjustable load levels and remote monitoring, help test and maintain power systems effectively.
We pride ourselves on delivering innovative solutions that help customers achieve their mission-critical objectives. In-house production covers extrusions, molded components, vulcanized parts, and sheets made to ASTM, SAE, and MIL-STD standards. We also provide aircraft silicone gaskets and seals in all five ASTM D1056 hardness categories. Our products include qualified components for Boeing BMS 1-23 and all hardness types of BMS 1-60. Silicone fabrics embedded in flex-resistant materials offer strength and prevent stretching. We also create open or closed-cell constructions for military-specific applications.
Products and Solutions
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS Systems)
Our UPS systems, designed specifically for military applications, are built with durable aluminum housings tested for shock and vibration. These systems, ranging from 1000 to 2000 VA, are commonly used on minesweepers and frigates. We also supply 30 kVA three-phase UPS systems complete with battery systems. One model, approved by GL, is customized to power AIS systems on Navy vessels and features an LED display for clear visibility in extreme conditions.
AC/DC Converters (Rectifiers)
Our shore power rectifiers provide DC power to conventional diesel-powered submarines. These microprocessor-controlled rectifiers ensure a low DC ripple and quick dynamic behavior to protect the submarine’s sensitive electronics from damage.
Single-Cell Treatment Unit
This unit performs periodic gas charges or battery cell formatting. It automatically discharges battery cells with constant current, allowing battery-specific characteristics to be programmed. The unit can discharge and recharge up to three single cells, regenerating battery cells that have lost capacity. The integrated monitoring electronics allow fully automatic charge and discharge cycles without operator supervision.
Resistors and Load Banks
Our robust steel-grid resistors are heat-resistant and offer a cost-effective solution. We provide stainless steel or chromium alloy resistor elements. The front-mounted controls ensure easy operation, while acrylic glass panels protect against unauthorized access. The systems offer load increments in 1 kW steps, and automatic load switch-off occurs in case of fan failure. Load banks, designed primarily for DC, can also handle AC up to 72V, making them ideal for rarely used generators or emergency system stress tests.
We offer both standard and custom-designed systems with options like special colors, engraved company names, or additional technical features. An optional multifunctional device allows for monitoring voltages, current per phase, frequency, and more.
Shore Power Converter
KEMET provides a shore-to-ship power solution that seamlessly transfers power from the public grid to the ship during port stays. This converter adjusts the onshore network to the onboard system, preventing issues related to different mains voltages and frequencies across global ports. By eliminating the need for onboard generators, the shore power converter reduces pollution, noise, and vibration.
Using state-of-the-art IGBT technology, the converter automatically detects and adjusts to onshore conditions, delivering high-quality, uninterrupted power to the vessel. It can be supplied as an onboard solution or as a container system for port-side installation, with power ranges from 60 kVA to 1.5 MW.
Silicone Products
KEMET manufactures closed-cell silicone sponge and solid rubber in various shapes and sizes, designed to meet demanding military standards. Our extruded closed-cell silicone sponge profiles solve complex sealing issues by combining flexibility and complex geometries. We offer cords, rectangles, tubes, and other shapes with a wide range of compression deflection ratings, from soft to extra firm densities. These profiles resist water absorption and can be produced to meet BMS 1-23 and BMS 1-60 specifications.
Our silicone products are also available in flame-retardant versions and comply with FDA standards, making them suitable for extreme environments. Custom colors are available to match your assembly’s aesthetic needs.
